Underworld 4 Pushed Back to 2012Movie News — By ecksmanfan on August 18, 2010 5:25 am
It looks as though we will have to wait a few more months to see a pleather-clad Kate Beckinsale grace the screen again reports Comingsoon.net. The film, which was originally set for a September 2011 release, will now open in January of 2012. Sony’s Screen Gems division gave no reason for the delay, but the film is the only film set to release on that day, which means no competition. Needless to say, the movie will be filmed in 3D. (Yeah! 3D Kate Beckinsale!)
Beckinsale hubby, Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the franchise, will be returning to the directors chair and it is expected that Kate will be reprising her role as Seline, but no word on the size and scope of her role. It was rumored a few months back that she would be “passing the torch” so to speak, but no more has been heard on that point.
Screenwriter John Hlavin has previously talked about the story he has written:
“It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”
So a fourth film in a series that has been rather hit or miss. I love how these films look, with the blue and black tones throughout, but the films themselves have just been mediocre at best. You would think that with a group of actors that included Bill Nighey and Michael Sheen the films would be stellar, but they just never rise above that level you want them to be. I hope that they can close this one out with a decent story and with Wiseman attached again, we may get there.
