Viggo Mortensen To Play General Zod In Superman?Movie News — By Sean on February 26, 2011 4:24 pm
The word on the street is that another bigtime Hollywood actor familiar to comic book and fantasy fans, namely, Viggo Mortensen, has been shortlisted to star in the upcoming Superman reboot as General Zod. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen “…is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod, the evil and super-powered scientist who was portrayed by Terence Stamp in 1980s Superman II.” They don’t have to remind me who Zod is; I remember him very well.
This news comes only a few days after Kevin Costner was rumored to also be offered a role in the film, with most of the speculation centered around Costner playing Pa Kent, although I still am holding out hope that he will play Jor-El.
I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings when I say that, although I would be more than happy to see Aragorn (Mortensen) in the next Superman flick, I really hope General Zod is not a character because, frankly, he’s a kinda lame. There are literally dozens of other characters that Mortensen could play. Let’s be honest: I would rather see Mortensen play Supergirl than Zod, that’s how sucky Zod is. But these are all rumors anyway so we will keep you posted!
