It sounds like veteran actor George Takei (best known as Sulu from the original Star Trek) has a lot of free time on his hands because he put together this audition tape to help him get the role of Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark.

Clearly, this is a gag as I am sure that Mr. Takei has at least two artificial hips and would probably shatter to pieces if he were injured on stage as three other actors have before him (most of you know this story by now).  In fact, the video is to build publicity for another play that George has coming in 2012 called “Allegiance!”

Frankly, adding George Takei to the cast of the Spider-Man musical couldn’t hurt, could it?  At this point, the musical is apparently about $100 million over budget and its release has been delayed again.  Superstar director Julie Taymor (from the Lion King) took the fall for all of the mishaps and was fired from the production a few weeks ago.  But that’s another story…
