Meloni Ormond Christopher Meloni & Julia Ormond in Talks for Man of SteelZack Snyder and Christopher Nolan, who are directing and producing Man of Steel respectively, have been assembling a rather impressive cast for the Superman reboot. Already, we have seen the likes of Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe join the cast, all of whom have had at least one Oscar nomination in their careers, as well as Henry Cavill, who is a young, up-and-coming actor who is extremely talented.

When it was announced last week that Russell Crowe had joined the cast as Jor-El, it was mentioned that a-list actresses were being looked at for the role of Lara, Superman’s Kryptonian birth mother. Now, Deadline has learned that Julia Ormond is in talks for the part. Ormond has been seen in such films as Legends of the Fall, First Knight and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Also in talks to join Man of Steel is Christopher Meloni, who recently made headlines when he announced that he would be leaving the popular series Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. According to Deadline, the actor would be playing an unspecified role, but that role would be a “major” role in the film. However, Vulture has learned that Meloni will be playing a general.

“…he told us he’d be instead playing a general in the movie. But when we pressed for more information about the role, he said, ‘I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you.’”

Some have speculated that this “general” could actually be General Sam Lane, father of Lois Lane, who is being played by Amy Adams. Being that the role was originally described as being “major,” I would assume that the character may be re-written for the film. I’m not a Superman expert, so if others have any information on the Sam Lane, feel free to comment below as to how he may be included in Man of Steel.
